Stuart fourth in CAC shot put

TRINIDAD AND Tobago’s Akeem Stuart missed out on precious metal in yesterday’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games Men’s Shot Put final by placing fourth overall when action continued on the 11th day of regional competition at the High Performance Center in Veracruz, Mexico.

In the process however, Stuart launched the sphere a distance of 18.08 metres, capturing his season’s best performance. The local athlete fouled out his opening, third, fifth and sixth attempts, but hauled the sphere 17.28m on his second and 18.08m on his fourth try.

Winning the event in another season-best performance was Mexican Mario Cota (19.30m). Claiming runner-up spot was Cota’s compatriot, Christopher Stephen Saenz (19.27m), while Jamaican Raymond Brown finished third with 18.30m.

Meanwhile, another national representative Quincy Wilson, had to settle for sixth place overall as he was only able to muster up a 16.11m distance.

Additionally, Josanne Lucas advanced to the finals of the Women’s 100m hurdles event which got underway at the Heriberto Jara Atletic Stadium yesterday. Running out of lane eight in semi-final one, Lucas finished third fastest in 13.79 seconds.

After both ‘semis’ were completed, Lucas time was fifth fastest overall. She vies for CAC glory today, competing out of lane eight.

In sailing news, Olympic athlete Andrew Lewis and Kelly-Ann Arrindell were scheduled to continue their campaigns in the Men’s Laser and Women’s Laser Radial events yesterday. However, both series race six events were postponed.

And up to press time last night, TT’s male volleyballers were scheduled to begin their CAC journey facing off against Mexico in their preliminary Pool ‘A’ Match Four opening clash. Thus far, TT’s eight medal haul sees the national contingent in 10th place overall. They have already amassed six bronze and one silver and bronze each. Currently leading the medal haul is Mexico, with 205 in total so far.
